समाज का कोई भी वर्ग नशे से अछूता नहीं है। क्या बच्चे, क्या नवयुवक, प्रौढ़ और बुजुर्ग यहाँ तक महिलाये भी! जिस भी वर्ग के व्यक्ति इस रोग से ग्रस्त होते हैं , वह वर्ग परिवार, समाज और राष्ट्र के लिए बेकार हो जाता है। नशे की पहुँच आज राष्ट्र क्या दुनिया के कोने कोने तक हो गई है। समाज में आज कई अपराध घट रहे हैं। समाज के इन 75 प्रतिशत अपराधों के पीछे कहीं न कहीं नशीली वस्तु या नशे की समस्या से ग्रस्त व्यक्ति या संगठन का हाथ होता है। आतंकवाद से ले कर गली की साइकिल चोरी या फिर किसी महिला के गले से सोने की चेन छीने जाने के पीछे हो सकता है कहीं न कहीं नशे या नशीली वस्तु का हाथ होता है। नशे का सेवन करने वाले घर के राशन, बच्चों की पढ़ाई, मकान किराया इत्यादि के खर्चे भी रोक कर भी नशा के पीछे खर्च कर देते हैं। यदि नशे के लिए इसके बावजूद भी पैसे कम पड़े तो चोरी करना, घर वालों से जबरदस्ती करना, उधार मांग लेना, घर की किसी वस्तु को बेच देना, किसी से कुछ छीन लेना और उसे बेच कर नशा करना जैसा समाज को नरक बनाने वाले काम करते हैं। शराब का सेवन करने वाले अपने लिवर और किडनी को खराब कर लेते हैं । नशे की हालत में घर में और पास पड़ोस से झगड़ा लड़ाई कर आस पास का माहौल खराब करते हैं। स्मैक, हेरोइन इत्यादि जैसे नशे करने वाले प्रायः अपने नशे की आपूर्ति के लिए किसी आपराधिक काम में संलिप्त हो जाते हैं। गाँजा, भांग, चरस जैसे नशों का सेवन करने वाले प्रायः किसी मानसिक रोग के शिकार हो जाते हैं। सुलेशन, तथा सूंघने वाले नशे प्रायः बच्चे करते हैं और अपना बचपन तो बचपन, पूरा जीवन बर्बाद कर लेते हैं। ऐम्फेटमीन, कोकीन जैसे नशे करने वाले उच्चवर्गीय लोग बिना नशे के अपने को किसी भी काम के लिए अनुपयोगी कर लेते हैं। LSD, एक्सटासी जैसे रेव पार्टी वाले नशे युवाओं के जीवन को हमेशा हमेशा के लिए बर्बाद कर देते हैं। हर नशे का अंत अकाल मृत्यु होती है। अपराध और आतंकवाद तथा नशे के व्यापार को रोकने का काम सरकार का है। लेकिन समाज को नशामुक्त करने के लिए कई संगठन काम कर रहे हैं।

Upper-class people who use drugs like amphetamines and cocaine make themselves useless for any work without drugs. Drugs used in rave parties like LSD and ecstasy ruin the lives of young people forever. Every addiction ends in premature death. It is the government's job to stop crime, terrorism, and the drug trade. But there are many organizations working to make society drug-free.
